Read Exes to Lovers: A Remarriage Journey By Colette Drake Chapter 19 – A Heavy Price
Loria shook off his hand and looked at his embarrassing face. She suddenly remembered that she was the one who would sacrifice her time to see him. And now, everything was different.
However, Loria didn’t feel delighted and considered him an eyesore. She acted intimately with Colby in front of Theodore again. When she looked up and saw that Theodore hadn’t left, she asked coldly. “Are you not letting us leave, Mr. Franklin?”
“Or are you way too bored that you have to meddle with my
Clyde enjoyed this scene and was amazed.
Loria’s words were so harsh, as if they could stomp on Theodore’s heart.
And more surprisingly, he had never expected Theodore to be like this.
“Mr. Franklin, here’s my advice. Keep yourself busy, and don’t meddle with other people’s business. It’s bad for your health.”
Loria sized Theodore up in distaste and finally withdrew her gaze as if she might become unlucky by just looking at him.
“Sir, please step aside. You are blocking our way.”
Colby spoke softly, and Theodore looked at Colby again.
The moment he met those smiling eyes, it seemed that there were sparks within their gazes. Colby pushed his glasses and didn’t look
“Why bother talking with him? Let’s go.”
Loria took Colby’s hand and walked past Theodore.
The moment they passed by, Theodore saw Colby turn around and smile provocatively.
Probably because he was pissed off by Loria’s words, Theodore didn’t stop them and watched them leave.
Clyde, who had been watching the situation, finally stepped forward and put his hand on Theodore’s shoulder. “Do you know what you look like right now? To put it bluntly, you look like a blushed drunkard who has drowned in jealousy.”
Clyde even sniffed the air and leaned closer to Theodore. “Have you smelled it? The air is filled with jealousy. It seems to come from you. Wow, I haven’t smelled anything so strong in ages…”
Seeing Theodore’s dullness, Clyde boldly pointed out the reason that annoyed Theodore.
“You were obviously jealous, but you didn’t realize your feeling. I felt so anxious watching you.”
If it were someone else with such dullness, Clyde might laugh at him for the rest of his life.
*Shut up.” Theodore sat back in his seat. “I was just being polite.”
Who would be jealous of Loria? Since they had divorced, she had nothing to do with him. And he wouldn’t care no matter how many men
were around her.
Clyde only felt that Theodore was too stubborn.
He obviously cared about Loria but pushed her further away and didn’t even notice it.
With such an attitude, Theodore’s love life might be difficult.
If it weren’t for the situation, he would have wanted to take a photo of Theodore’s current expression as a souvenir, which was really rare.
“How about it? Do you want me to give you some advice? Just buy me a few more drinks and…”
Clyde was still jokingly laughing, but he began to cry loudly in pain the next second.
“It hurts… it hurts! Let me go! Theodore, what’s wrong with you? Am I still your buddy? How dare you treat me like this! My arm is breaking!”
Theodore remained indifferent, but Clyde bared his teeth in pain, and sweat appeared on his forehead.
He wouldn’t have joked about it if he had known that Theodore had such a big reaction. He shouldn’t be asking for trouble.
The pain was enough to make Clyde abandon their friendship for a moment. He yelled painfully and accused Theodore of his brutality.
“Dude, my arm was just twisted by your cruel ex–wife yesterday. It can’t bear any more pain.”
Theodore locked his arm, and Clyde’s miserable crying attracted many waiters.
If it weren’t for sure that the two knew each other, the waiter would probably call the police just because of Clyde’s horrible scream.
Clyde became helpless in pain and felt embarrassed as the others stared at him. He truly regretted what he had done.
He humbly promised repeatedly that he would not talk nonsense again, and Theodore let him go sullenly.
Clyde wanted to scold Theodore but didn’t dare say it aloud. He could only complain in a low voice. “If my arm is broken, you and your wife
will pay for it!”
“Go after your wife yourself, you stubborn dumbass. I won’t help you again.”
If he continued to meddle in Theodore’s business, he was afraid that he might lose his other arm.
His poor arm suffered twice within a short period. Clyde only wanted to hug himself in distress and buy the most expensive insurance for
his own safety.
It seemed that he had to join that kickboxing class as soon as possible.
Theodore hurt his arm but didn’t seem guilty at all. Clyde covered his injured arm aggrievedly and said in a strange tone.
“Oh, my dear arm, I know you have suffered these days. I will bring you to drink freely tonight. You have to stand strong and let me use you
for another few decades.”
Clyde paid a heavy price for this free meal.
Loria and Colby left the restaurant. Seeing that Theodore didn’t follow, Loria quickly let go of Colby’s arm.
She let him go so fast that Colby couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.
If possible, he really wanted to be more intimate with her. The feeling just now was too good.
“I had no choice just now.”
It was Loria’s style to throw people aside after using them.
However, Colby didn’t say much but silently concealed his feeling.
Loria probably would never know that his heart almost jumped out when she took his arm, and his mind went blank momentarily.
Colby couldn’t feel anyone or anything around him except for Loria’s warmth.
Holding her hand was the boldest thing Colby had ever done, and he didn’t regret doing so.
However, Loria’s words made him smile bitterly.
It was just a play on the occasion. All her intimacy was fake, and she faked it for another man.
He couldn’t let himself drown in this fake intimacy. Not now.
He closed his eyes and reopened them slowly, and his smile became gentle as usual.
The two walked side by side. The light shone through the trees on the side of the road and scattered on their laces.
As a gust of wind passed by, the light spots staggered.
“Aren’t you curious? Don’t want to ask me something?”
“Curious about what?”
Loria thought for a while. “For example, don’t you want to ask about my relationship with that man just now?”
“If you want to tell me, I don’t need to ask.”
Colby didn’t mean to ask at all. Loria felt much relieved and waited for him to get the car.
Soon, Colby drove over.
He looked through the rearview mirror at the person he had been missing for seven years.
She was looking out the window.
He was so close to her, but her eyes were so empty.
She seemed to be in a daze or looking at other things through the scenery.
Maybe she was thinking about the man just now.
After struggling for a moment, Colby suddenly spoke and pulled her back from her thoughts.
*Just now you asked me if I was curious.”
Loria came back to her senses.
“Of course, I’m curious. Not only about him but also everything about you in the past seven years. You must tell me everything in detail
when you want to talk.”
He showed respect to Loria by not asking her anything.
At the same time, he was unwilling to push Loria too hard.
Although he couldn’t wait to know what had happened between Loria and Theodore, he knew Loria well. He was certain she wouldn’t say
anything even if he asked her.
He didn’t want to rush. He had enough time to take it slow.
Loria smiled and suddenly felt much more relieved.
She always felt sleepy after meals, and a slightly bumpy ride seemed to have a hypnotic effect.
Loria supported her head while rubbing her temples.
The meeting in the morning was too exhausting, and she couldn’t stand the sleepiness anymore. She closed her eyes to have a rest.
Colby looked at her through the rearview mirror and slowed down to drive more stably.
He sincerely hoped that this ride could last forever.
People were always greedy. All he wished during the past seven years was that Loria could live peacefully.
But now that she had come back alive, he wanted more.
Colby only dared to stare at her face during her short break.
She seemed extremely elegant when she supported her head, and the sunshine kissed her cheek now and then.
Colby felt like he was going to lose his mind.
He withdrew his gaze and slightly rolled down the window. As the fresh breeze squeezed in, it calmed him and blew away the desire he had been suppressing for more than two decades.
The Peters Mansion.
Nicole cried and complained to her mother that Loria had robbed her castle yesterday. The more she talked, the more she felt aggrieved.
“Mom, you don’t know how arrogant she was yesterday. She threw all my stuff out. Shouldn’t she be dead long ago? Why is she back? This
bitch is so lucky to be alive!”
Nicole didn’t need to pretend to be gentle and considerate in front of her mother, and her words made her as vicious as a shrew.
She never cared about her cousin Loria.
In the past, she only had to put on a show, and Loria was willing to give her everything. But now, things were different.
Loria had changed.
Trista sat on the sofa and saw her daughter’s tears. She felt very distressed, so she stepped forward to comfort her.
“Nicole, she was just lucky. So what if she comes back? Her parents are already dead, and nobody can stay by her side in the future. After
all she is still inferior to you.”
Ives was sitting aside, and he put down the teacup. His eyes were full of schemes.
“Your mother is right. What can a girl do in Peters Group? I can make her disappear for seven years, and I can still make her disappear
As he spoke, he clenched the newspaper hard. His kind and loving look during the day had disappeared entirely.
“I’ve also heard about what happened during the day. How could that little girl come back alive after seven years? Could it be that someone
was helping her?”
Trista was still full of doubts about Loria’s disappearance and sudden return. If nobody helped her, how could Loria come back safe and
“That must be it. That bitch is so arrogant now. She must have a benefactor, or she wouldn’t dare to rob my castle!”
Nicole kept saying the castle belonged to her, but she seemed to forget that Loria was its owner.
“It’s just a castle. The Peters Group is in my hands, and I can give you as many castles as possible.”
Ives rubbed Nicole’s beautiful hair. It wasn’t the right moment to turn against Loria. What he wanted was more than a castle, but all the property of the entire Peters family.
Nicole’s disappointment completely dissipated, and a smug smile appeared. “That’s right. Dad is in charge of this family. Loria is nothing.”
“Her parents passed away long ago. Since Loria is back, as her elders, we still have to be nice to her. Otherwise, the reporters might spread
Trista supported her chin and looked at Ives with a charming expression.
*True. She has never come to visit me since she came back. She may be ignorant, but we can’t let the others blame us.”
The air was filled with the smell of conspiracy. Ives picked up the teacup and drank it before dialing Loria’s number.
