Colby followed behind her and heard it as well. His brows furrowed slightly, and he was about to open the door to stop them. Loria pushed open the door first. “It seems everyone has arrived. What’s so happy about? Can anyone share it with me?”
The laughter stopped abruptly.
Some people put on an arrogant look and didn’t even want to look at Loria.
Some others didn’t participate in this chaos. Greg saw Loria coming and smiled in relief.
Loria memorized the reactions of everyone. It seemed that Ives had tried his best to win many of them over.
“Why did everyone stop talking? Am I unwelcome?”
Even if the word “unwelcome” was written on their faces, these shareholders weren’t stup*d enough to say it out loud.
“How come? You’re the vice president of our company.”
Ives smiled and stepped forward to break the awkward atmosphere.
“They were just joking. Don’t take it seriously. Since everyone is here, let’s start the meeting.”
No one spoke a word as if the air had frozen. Loria was not in a hurry and calmly tapped on the table.
Since everyone wanted to waste time, she would do the same and see who would be the first to give up.
Ives’ eyes flashed, knowing that Loria was not threatened by this shaming. So, he broke the silence and asked the director of the Finance Department to report on the situation of recent years.
The director was a very competent-looking man with a pair of black-rimmed glasses. But he seemed quite shrewd, probably because he
had dealt with too much money.
Loria listened to his report and had a general understanding of the company’s situation.
It was much more complicated than she expected.
In the past seven years, Ives had spared no effort to make several branches her father favored go downhill. Then, he focused on the few new branches he had established after becoming president and used all the resources to make them stronger.
Among those branches that Ives had targeted, Sainta Company’s situation was the worst, and it was on the edge of going bankrupt.
Loria glanced sideways at Ives’s confident expression and sneered secretly.
It was more than just a report. Ives wanted her to quit in fear.
However, she had already attended the meeting, so she wouldn’t let Ives get what he wanted.
After the report was over, Ives started talking hypocritically.
“Loria, you’ve known the situation. I’m willing to save these branches, but they suffered huge losses year after year. Our company is
wealthy, but we can’t bear the losses without boundaries.”
“So what do you mean?”
Ives seemed embarrassed, but he actually felt complacent. “Since Sainta Company can’t be saved, it’s better to get rid of it as soon as
possible so that the headquarters doesn’t need to bear any loss. Don’t you think?”
“Oh, so that’s what you’re thinking. What about the others? Do you agree?”
“Of course. Why should we keep a useless branch?”
“It’s best to let it go as soon as possible.”
More than half were in favor.
The Peters Group was a real estate company, while the Sainta Company was focused on cosmetics. Even if it were abandoned now, it would not affect the development of the Peters Group.
Most importantly, Ives could use this branch to force Loria.
Loria glanced at them disdainfully and leaned lazily on the chair.
The Sainta Company was her father’s favorite branch.
Although their research focused on cosmetics, her father also devoted much effort.
Loria had expected that Ives would choose to destroy Sainta Company first because he knew her father valued this branch a lot.
If she wanted to protect Sainta Company, she would be against half of the shareholders.
If she let it go. Ives would get what he wanted, and she would lose this first battle.
Ives was indeed a tricky man.
No wonder every wrinkle on his face was complacent. But unfortunately, he celebrated his victory too early.
The smile on Loria’s face gradually faded.
“We must keep the Sainta Company.”
Shareholders were in an uproar.
A man who was almost bald slapped the table and stood up. “Loria, don’t ever think about deciding on everything just because of your father! Your father was capable, but you’re not the same!”
“Loria, you are still young. You can’t mess with the entire company with such an impulsive decision. We have to abandon the Sainta Company. Even if we keep it, nothing will change. We’ll only suffer more losses.”
“It’s a stup*d decision! I disagree!”
Ives was delighted to see everyone attacking Loria. The stronger they reacted, the more unfavorable it would be for her.
Colby shook Loria’s hand to comfort her, and Loria patted the back of his hand to indicate that she was fine.
“I also think we shouldn’t give up the Sainta Company.” Colby’s voice wasn’t loud, but it was extremely intimidating.
Greg slapped the table. “It’s hard to focus on real estate since the government has laken away a lot of business. We will need to work on something else sooner or later. If the Sainta Company is gone, what should we do in the future? You’re so short-sighted and only care
about immediate interests!”
The other people heard their words and remained silent even though they were aggrieved.
Seeing this, Ives spoke again.
“Loria, I know the Sainta Company means a lot to you, but you shouldn’t be impulsive. Do you know how much losses it costs within a year?”
“You are still young and don’t understand many things. You should take my advice. If you like the name, I will find another branch and change its name to Sainta Company and let you be in charge of it.”
“Do you think I only care about the name?”
Ives suddenly looked into Loria’s eyes. There was no other emotion in them, and his wrinkled face was reflected in her dark pupils.
But somehow, Ives felt that Loria’s eyes were a little scary. They seemed to see through the darkness in his heart.
