Broken Vows Second Chances by Gwen Hayes By Gwen Hayes Chapter 61

Chapter 61

After leaving the ward, Max led Elizabeth away. She took a lot of effort to break free from his hand.

“Max, what are you doing?”

Max stared at her with gloomy eyes.

“Let’s go back first.”

Elizabeth frowned. “Can’t you see what grandma looked like? She wants to leave the nursing home. She doesn’t want to stay here.”

After the conversation with Madam Hart, Elizabeth guessed she was probably worried that she would cause trouble to her family if she went home, so she could only stay in the nursing home.

Madam Hart wanted to go back, but she was afraid to.

Elizabeth was depressed. She came to visit Madam Hart every weekend, but she didn’t notice Madam Hart’s concerns. If Elizabeth had known earlier and taken Madam Hart home to take care of her, she wouldn’t have fainted before the surgery

today.

“I know,” Max said in a low voice, “But you can also see that she is not in a good mood and is angry with me.”

Thinking of something, Max added, “Not for you.”

Hearing this, Elizabeth was stunned.

When Madam Hart said those angry words, she was referring to Max, but she was always kind to Elizabeth.

Thinking of this, Elizabeth felt even more distressed.

Madam Hart was in a bad mood, but she still had to restrain her emotions when facing Elizabeth.

“So let her cool off tonight. Let’s go back and clean up the room. We’ll come to pick her up tomorrow.”

Elizabeth thought about it and felt Max was right.

However, she was also worried if Madam Hart continued to stay alone, she would be under great psychological pressure.

Elizabeth suggested, “Can’t we take her back tonight?”

“Tonight?”

“Yes, it’s still early. Let’s go back and let the servant clean up the room. Then tell grandma to pick her up in two hours. What do you think? Two hours will be enough for her to calm down.”

Hearing the words, Max thought about it and nodded.

“Okay.”

“Let’s go tell grandma.”

After Elizabeth spoke, she couldn’t wait to turn around and go to tell Madam Hart about it.

Madam Hart was sitting alone in front of the window and looking at the moonlight in a daze after they left. She suddenly heard a familiar sound of footsteps. Before she reacted, Elizabeth had walked to her. She said delightedly, “Grandma, we’ll go

back and let the servant tidy up the room, and we’ll come to pick you up in two hours. Wait for us here for a while.”

After speaking, Elizabeth immediately turned around and left without caring about Madam Hart’s response. Before leaving, she told the nurses to take good care of her and left the nursing home with Max.

On the way back, Elizabeth was very excited.

As she was going to take Madam Hart home, she began to think about how to decorate the room and asked Max all kinds of questions along the way.

Max responded calmly and stopped to look at her at the red light. Seeing her joyful profile, he thought of their divorce.

But Elizabeth seemed to have already forgotten about their divorce.

“By the way, it may not be convenient for grandma to go upstairs. Why don’t we arrange a room for her on the first floor?”

Max nodded. “Yes. You can call the servants and let them clean up right now.”

“You’re right.”

After all, it would take nearly an hour to get home from here.

Elizabeth made a call.

When Lincoln learned Madam Hart was going back home, he immediately asked servants to clean up the room.

Although it was night, it wouldn’t take much time to clean up. There were too many new quilts and sheets at home, and the servants didn’t have much work every day. Even if it was a new quilt, it had been dried today or the day before.

After Elizabeth hung up the phone, Max’s phone rang again.

The melodious ringtone of his phone rang in the closed car, which was a bit harsh.

Elizabeth originally had a smile. But when hearing the ringtone, she paused, and the smile on her face gradually disappeared.

She leaned back in her seat and turned to look out the window.

There was no other sound in the car except the ringtone.

Max noticed the atmosphere was a little awkward. He glanced at Elizabeth out of the corner of his eye and said, “Mon, answer

the phone for me.”

Elizabeth paused for a moment and then refused. “Pick it up yourself.”

“I am driving.”

“You can pull over on the side and go down to pick it up.”

Max laughed when hearing her words. “Is it so difficult for you to pick it up for me?”

“No.” They were going to divorce anyway, so Elizabeth didn’t care about Max. She said directly, “But I don’t want to help

you.”

Seeing her overbearing appearance, Max was not surprised.

There happened to be a temporary parking lot ahead. Max drove the car over and looked at her for a while after stopping the car. He said, “You win.”

After speaking, he took out his mobile phone. After seeing the caller ID, he said, “It’s my mum.”

Elizabeth, who was originally indifferent, sat up straight for a moment. She subconsciously said, “How could it be….”

Max’s phone had been ringing for too long, so the ringtone had automatically stopped.

Max’s gaze fell on her fair face. He said in a deep voice, “Who do you think it will be?”

Elizabeth looked away and changed the subject. “Hurry up and call it back.”

Max didn’t continue to talk about this topic and called Melissa.

As soon as he called, Melissa answered quickly. Max turned on the speakerphone, so the voice spread in the car.

“Max, your father and I just got off the plane and are rushing to the nursing home. How is your grandma? Has she had the surgery?”

“She didn’t have the surgery.” Max briefly explained what happened today and said with a frown, “Don’t you think you came too late?”

“I’m sorry, Max. We have been very busy recently. The operation is ahead of schedule. We rushed back from work. I thought there would be no problem with you and Elizabeth there. It’s my fault this time. I won’t do it again.”

Melissa was a very tough woman in front of others.

But she was very gentle when facing her family. If someone didn’t know her well, he might think Melissa was always weak and

soft.

The first time Elizabeth saw this kind of contrast in the Hart family, she was very surprised.

Melissa was a strong woman who was so vigorous and resolute in the company while she was docile in front of her family.

At first, Elizabeth didn’t understand why Melissa had a double personality. But later, when she saw Melissa soothing Daniel, who lost his temper, she suddenly understood.

Melissa was a very smart woman who cared about her family very much.

And their relationship was very good.

Melissa didn’t think showing weakness meant defeat when she apologized to her family, which made Elizabeth admire her from the bottom of her heart.

But Elizabeth didn’t want to admit defeat in front of Max.

She and Max were not a real couple.
